Like most Atari aficiondos, I had my STeem SSE and Hatari Emulators setup to boot from a single C: hard drive. Then, using multi boot software, I would choose which mode I wanted to boot to. Maybe low resolution for a game, medium for another app. Or even Hi-Rez for desktop publishing.
The multi boot software would happily read the various configurations, rename accessories, control panel add-ons, etc. and then allow TOS to read the file system and load the proper ACC, PRG or CPX files. Although it took extra time to boot and then select a configuration, it took even more time to setup the multi boot software with all the possible configurations that I needed. I had a configuration for games, for GDOS programs, for certain accessories that I wanted to have available.
It was complicated but I was in Atari nerd heaven. My system faithfully reproduced the exact Atari experience I had with my ST hardware in the 1980's. But finally, after I needed to make a recent change for something else I wanted to run, I started to think that there must be a better way, a more maintainable way. Well, I figured out a solution that made me smack my head with the appropriate Duh! Why didn't I think of it before? So watch the video and if you haven't already figured it out yourself, take a look at a simple solution for having multiple Atari ST configurations that are much more maintainable. (BTW, I did save my old ST installation, just in case I was feeling extremely nostalgic.)
