Pitfall was designed by David Crane and released by Activision in 1982. It was one of the best selling games for the Atari 2600, selling over 4 million copies. You control the adventurer, Pitfall Harry. The goal of the game is to collect all of the treasures within the allotted 20 minutes. There are 255 screens consisting of various hazards. There are waterholes (with and without crocodiles), tarpits, snakes, rolling logs, campfires and such.

We're using the most capable emulator for the 2600, the Stella emulator. As this is a game guide, not a walkthrough, it focuses on explaining the game, the different game variations, scoring and a few secrets that most of us never knew. After all you would have had to actually read the manual that came with the game. PFFFT. Whoever did that?
